In the New Year a contractor will be undertaking scrub/woodland clearance on an area of the Common near Seven Islands pond.

This work is to promote the re-colonization of acid grassland where it has been lost to woodland encroachment. Acid grassland is an important but scarce habitat given priority status.
For safety reasons, a row of four Poplar trees growing adjacent to the Croydon Road shared footpath will be felled in the near future.
A contractor is currently undertaking acid grass clearance on 7 islands, Bidders and Golf course sub-sites. This is to maintain and enhance the important acid grass coverage.
Selected areas are currently being sprayed. This is to prevent scrub encroachment into sensitive grassland areas. The herbicide does not contain glyphosate.
