Over the past few weeks various areas have been subject to management in order to prevent them succeeding into scrub and maintain habitat diversity. This has included physical removal of scrub/grass and spraying unwanted regeneration.
Numerous areas of grassland have also been cut to preserve them as grassland.
In the coming weeks several areas of bramble on the Gunsite, 7 islands and Bidders will be flailed to keep it under control.
From early February 2026 The Gentle Wild Forest School provider will be running nature-based learning activities on the parcel of land shown in the pdf below. Initially sessions will be run on a Friday and Saturday with the aim of adding mid-week sessions in the future.
Spraying is taking place on Mitcham Common 7 islands near Cedars Avenue and on Bidders subsites on 28th and 29th May. This is to control bramble and tree regeneration.
New holes from metal detecting have been appearing on paths around Mitcham Common. Metal detecting is not permitted on the Common for safety and nature conservation reasons. If you see holes being dug please report it.
The roads around Mitcham Common will have their verges flailed on 21st-22nd June.
Over the next few weeks, selected areas of bramble will be cut. Areas included are on Bidders, Mill House, 7 islands and Gunsite subsites. This will facilitate the regeneration of grassland.
