Mitcham Common Spring 2026 Work Programme

At the end of January – early February, scrub will be cleared on the Gunsite as part of the acid grassland restoration program. The map below details the location. Gunsite scrub clearance map

Currently all roadside and boundary trees are being surveyed. Data gathered for each tree will be used to determine future tree safety management works. To facilitate the survey, some trees have been numbered with white temporary spray paint to act as reference points for the surveyor.

Last Summer SGN undertook gas mains replacement works on the Common. Some of the required reinstatement was delay until this Spring. Towards the end of April the following works will be carried out on the land parcels shown on the attached map. Parcel A: Replace footpath and damaged signage. On Wednesday 21 January, London Universities & Colleges Athletics will be holding a cross country event on the Common. Runners will follow a circular route starting at the lower field by the Ecology Centre, over the hills near the Croydon side of the Common and back towards the Ecology Centre.

The car park height barrier was recently damaged by an unknown vehicle. This is due to be repaired on 16/6/2026. To facilitate this work the car park will be closed during its repair.
