About Mitcham Common

Mitcham Common is a 182 hectare Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. It is one of the most interesting and varied green spaces in South London. Please see these pages for full information about the different areas and aspects of the Common.

Ownership

The Common is regulated and administered by the Mitcham Common Conservators. The London Borough of Merton acts as the Conservators’ agent, to implement the management policies agreed by the Board of Conservators.

Funding

The maintenance of the Common is resourced by income from investments, licence fees, grants, donations, and a small financial contribution from Merton Council.

Staff

The Manager and Warden are the only full-time staff working on the Common. Both are based at the Mill House Ecology Centre and employed by Merton Council.
